Under the Lights (Daylight Falls #2)
by Dahlia Adler
Publisher: Spencer Hill Contemporary
Release Date: June 30th 2015
Genre: GLBT, Young Adult/New Adult, Contemporary
Rate: 5 Stars

Synopsis:
Josh Chester loves being a Hollywood bad boy, coasting on his good looks, his parties, his parents' wealth, and the occasional modeling gig. But his laid-back lifestyle is about to change. To help out his best friend, Liam, he joins his hit teen TV show, Daylight Falls...opposite Vanessa Park, the one actor immune to his charms. (Not that he's trying to charm her, of course.) Meanwhile, his drama-queen mother blackmails him into a new family reality TV show, with Josh in the starring role. Now that he's in the spotlight—on everyone's terms but his own—Josh has to decide whether a life as a superstar is the one he really wants.

Vanessa Park has always been certain about her path as an actor, despite her parents' disapproval. But with all her relationships currently in upheaval, she's painfully uncertain about everything else. When she meets her new career handler, Brianna, Van is relieved to have found someone she can rely on, now that her BFF, Ally, is at college across the country. But as feelings unexpectedly evolve beyond friendship, Van's life reaches a whole new level of confusing. And she'll have to choose between the one thing she's always loved...and the person she never imagined she could.

You guys! I adored this book. If every YA LGBT book was as good as Under the Lights, I'd never read anything else. It was such an authentic approach that I greatly appreciated. The inclusion of young Hollywood also added another element to this book that I found really interesting. It's not something I read about often, so I was really intrigued about the behind the scenes aspect.

The chemistry between Vanessa and Brianna was perfect. I loved the slow build of their relationship. No insta-love here, y'all! They really are a great couple. As the book progresses, their relationship really shines. The secondary relationships were so fun, too. Dahlia Adler got the friendship dynamic so right in this book. Often times, I'm left wanting more. Not this time! The author delivered witty and realistic friendships that enhanced the book and characters so much.

All in all, you can't go wrong with Under the Lights! If you love YA and LGBT, you'll be hard pressed to find a better book! I'd encourage people who aren't fans of LGBT literature to give it a try, too. It transcends the typical stereotypes and tells a great story without being heavy handed. It'd be an excellent book for someone to discover how great YA LGBT literature is or to reinforce their love of the genre!

Tour + #Giveaway: The Edge of Forever by Melissa E. Hurst

The Edge of Forever
by Melissa E. Hurst
Publisher: Sky Pony Press
Release Date: June 2nd 2015
Rate: 4 STARS

Synopsis:

In 2013: Sixteen-year-old Alora is having blackouts. Each time she wakes up in a different place with no idea of how she got there. The one thing she is certain of? Someone is following her.

In 2146: Seventeen-year-old Bridger is one of a small number of people born with the ability to travel to the past. While on a routine school time trip, he sees the last person he expected—his dead father. The strangest part is that, according to the Department of Temporal Affairs, his father was never assigned to be in that time. Bridger’s even more stunned when he learns that his by-the-book father was there to break the most important rule of time travel—to prevent someone’s murder.

And that someone is named Alora.

Determined to discover why his father wanted to help a “ghost,” Bridger illegally shifts to 2013 and, along with Alora, races to solve the mystery surrounding her past and her connection to his father before the DTA finds him. If he can stop Alora’s death without altering the timeline, maybe he can save his father too.

This is one of those sci-fi books that defy the stereotypes. Even those who aren't fans of sci-fi will find something to love about The Edge of Forever. The start of this book does drag a bit, but it didn't take long for me to become invested in the story. It quickly becomes a fast paced, intriguing read!

I really enjoyed the characters in this story. Alora was a very normal girl, and it was refreshing. She wasn't obsessed with the normal teenage girl things, so I felt a huge connection to her. Bridger was also a great character. Watching their story unfold kept me on the edge of my seat!

I'm usually not one for time travel books. They can be confusing, but I didn't have that issue with The Edge of Forever. The writing was concise and enjoyable. All in all, I really liked this book! It may have its flaws, but I definitely recommend it to all YA fans!

**I received this book for free in exchange for an honest review with no compensation.

Hayden Panetierre as Alora and Vika

Logan Lerman as Bridger
