Feature & Follow #9: Permission to Rant

The Feature & Follow is hosted by TWO hosts, Parajunkee of Parajunkee’s View and Alison of Alison Can Read. Each host will have their own Feature Blog and this way it’ll allow us to show off more new blogs!

Tell us about a book that you didn’t like and why we shouldn’t read it…nicely.

I was a slacker and missed last week's FF because life likes to take over. It's a pesky bitch. Anyway, I am so ready for this week's FF! Bring it on!

First up, I have a really sore spot about abusive book boyfriends. I was in an emotionally abusive relationship. It ruined me for awhile. Whenever you're actually living it, it isn't sexy. It's terrifying. Yesterday, I did a review on a book (Forgiven by Rebecca Brooke) that really got under my skin with an over the top abusive asshole. You can click here to read my rant-y review.

That brings us to my second book for this list. Fifty Shades of Grey by E.L. James. If it's kinky sex you like, do your thing. But Fifty Shades is not the way real BDSM relationships are handled. (If you are interested in BDSM, go here instead of reading FSoG.) Christian even admits that he wants to hurt Ana. No. Shut the front door. I'm not an erotica fan. I think I'm still too childish for them, because most of the sex scenes seem so awkward that I laugh. But I promise if you're looking for some steamy scenes, you can find better than this book. We won't even talk about the whole fanfic controversy. Or the inner goddess. Or the lip biting. Or the tampon scene.

And now we're almost finished! The end is nigh! No one is going to be surprised that I'm wrapping this up with the Twilight Series by Stephenie Meyer. Instead of boring you with more ranting, I'll let Rob Pattinson do the talking for me.

My version of how things should have went with Twilight? Easy. This:

  1. Thank you! This is why I couldn't finish the Hush Hush series. I'll probably be chased through the blogging streets by an angry mob with pitchforks, but there you have it.

Thanks for stopping by my FF. I'm now following via GFC and Bloglovin'. Have a happy Friday!

    1. I've never even considered reading Hush, Hush because it didn't appeal to me. But now I have an even better reason not to! Thanks for stopping by!

  2. I HATE the abusive boyfriend thing. Especially when they make it out to be some romantic sign of his devotion. As a mother of a teen daughter and a youth worker, it saddens me so much when I find blatant abusive disguised as love in teen lit.
Sorry, I'll get off my soapbox.
    Anyways, old follower.

  4. I never really got into Fifty Shades myself. It wasn't so much the abusive guy but any girl who would put up with the nonsense. YIKES

    1. Yes! I couldn't believe Ana would stick around for so long with that behavior. I felt pity for her by the time I finished that series.

  5. Bahaha I love those gifs! They crack me up. I too can't read books with abusive boyfriends, I've never been in an abusive relationship so I can't relate, but I just wouldn't be able to stand reading about one. I'm glad you got out of your emotionally abusive relationship!

    1. It's really atrocious! I wish more books were written to show healthy relationships, you know? Something to aspire to for young readers. Anyway, thanks for stopping by and following!

  6. Hopping through. That last gif is really funny. I am a Twilight fan, but was not a 50 Shades fan. It makes the writing in Twilight look Nobel prize worthy.

  7. The last gif made me laugh so hard haha! I never had a single idea that Robert Pattinson sort of disliked his role in Twilight. It's shocking! Haha, thanks for sharing! :) by the way, I just started a book blog around last week so would you want to check it out? :) xx

  9. LOL love the pics. I liked FSOG and I do agree there are better books like that out there. I used to love the Twilight series until movies came out and they ruined that whole story for me. I couldn't believe how cheesy that story is until I watched especially when the baby was born. Now I just cringe at the thought of it.

    1. The baby was what killed me forever on that series. I already had a strong dislike for them, but it was too comical. I think Stephenie Meyer meant to troll everyone and secretly laugh at us all because of that creepy baby. Thanks for stopping by and following!

  10. Great points! The Twilight one really had me laughing, but yeah, looking back...it's definitely not at all healthy relationship Bella and Edward have!

  11. Oh God, I love your post! I totally agree with you on FSoG, btw. That is no way to portray a BDSM relationship and to make anything that abusive 'hot' and desirable is just wrong! I'm a new follower and on my way to check out your ranty review ;)
Thanks for sharing :) I hope you have a good weekend!

    1. Exactly! Preach, preach, preach! A friend of mine who's a longtime Dom said the amount of women who approached him after FSoG was scary. They had no knowledge of BDSM except that they wanted a Christian Grey. Nope, nope, nope! Thanks for stopping by and following!

  12. The GIFs are amazing! I refuse to even think about reading FSOG on principle! I agree with you on the whole Twilight thing, drove me mad. Please don't burn me saying this (and this is the first time I've said this publicly) but if I have been Bella and had been treated that way by Edward (as in the second book) I'd have let the b**ger burn, left him to it if he wanted to do something as stupid as kill himself (nutter!) and would have been happy with Jacob! It's as unhealthy a relationship as you can get yet it's the one that the girls all wanted to have when the books and films came out, can't be a good thing!

    1. Thank you! And yes, I still don't know why Bella would put up with the antics. But I guess on the other hand, she was guilty of her own craziness, too. I mean, who puts themselves into danger multiple times to hopefully catch a glimpse of the guy who abandoned you in a forest? Come on, Bella! Grumble, grumble. Those books make me cranky. Thanks for stopping by, Thea!

  16. Hey Happy Friday!

I actually didn't like Fifty Shades either, but I really hated the characters in the story so that's what mainly bothered me... Not to mention I didn't really understand a bunch of stuff that went on... Anyways, I'm an old follower!

  22. First of all, A* gif usage!

I have not done and #FF this week! Life gets in the way, indeed chick! :)

I am also not a fan of the abusive book boyfriend. I hate how some books glamorize it and make it okay. It is awful.

Also, the Twilight thing... The funniest thing about it is that nobody hates Twilight more than the cast. Also as much as I like it for what it has done for YA, I am not a fan of the books relationships!

Thanks for sharing chick and have a great weekend! :)
