Pretty Little Indies: Kira Adams

Happy Monday, y'all! I have so much for you guys today from our author, Kira Adams! She so kindly allowed me to pick her brain for a fun interview, there's a giveaway (INT and US!), and I reviewed the first two books in her Infinite Love series. Enjoy!

My Forever by Kira Adams
(The Infinite Love Series #1)

Genres: Young Adult, Contemporary Romance

Grief and loss can make a person act out in all the
worst kinds of ways. Madalynne Johnson has
always been a bit of a handful, but with the loss of her brother, separation of her parents, and her boyfriends unexpected news of joining the army she has gone into a full on tailspin.

Parker Grant experienced loss firsthand when his brother took his own life. Darkness closed in. Madalynne saved him; showed him the light. And even though he isn’t sure what the future holds--he wants Madalynne and this time he won’t give up without a fight.
I'm not going to lie. I always wonder how it'll go whenever I pick up a book by an author I've never read before. I had that moment with My Forever. But it didn't last long. Very quickly, Adams pulled me into her world. Madalynne and Parker became very real very quickly. I had intended to take my time reading My Forever, but I couldn't help but speed through it in almost one sitting.

I felt a lot of sympathy for Parker and Madalynne. They're both dealing with a lot of raw grief, and that's something I can completely understand. I think that's what made them so real. Usually, I hate love triangles. They always seemed fabricated for the sake of adding a subplot. I don't think that was the case in My Forever. The situation with two intertwined love triangles seems plausible. It's something that could happen, and does, so that's what made it even more heartbreaking to read through.

Overall, I think Kira Adams has such a strong debut with My Forever. I think her ability to capture raw human emotion with her storytelling will captivate readers in the best way possible. Even though this book is marked young adult, I'd recommend it to the older crowd and even new adult fans.

Beautifully Broken by Kira Adams
(The Infinite Love Series #2)

Genres: Young Adult, Contemporary Romance

Jacqueline Blunt hasn’t had an easy life. In fact, she’s
had anything but. From a drug addicted mother to
being bounced around in foster care, Jacqueline longed for one thing—normalcy. Lee Bennett had everything he could ever want—girls falling all over him, a dream job, money. The one thing he was missing? Passion.

Sometimes the ones worth fighting for don’t know their worth. Sometimes being broken is beautiful. This is a story of strength, courage, hope, faith, and love. This is Beautifully Broken.
Kira Adams has done it again. I don't know how she does it, but she captures emotions so exquisitely. My Forever had its moments, but I felt like Beautifully Broken was an emotional roller coaster. There is a never ending series of ups and downs that pull you right into the midst of Jacquie and Lee's story. Again, I never felt like the things contained in this book were for the sake of a subplot or to shock and awe. The themes that Kira Adams explores in Beautifully Broken are very real and raw, and that's what makes them have such a profound effect.

Jacquie and Lee are both dysfunctional. They're both endured trauma throughout their life, and I think that shows in the way that Kira Adams developed them. I felt like they could balance each other out, and I was really invested in their relationship.

This series is addictive. I'm dying to know what happens next. It's almost like a soap opera, but so much better. Just like with My Forever, I definitely recommend this one to the older YA crowd and NA fans.

1. Describe My Forever and Beautifully Broken in one word each.
Real & Raw

2. If you could choose any TV show to promote your books on, which would you choose?
Gosh, this is a tough question…especially since I haven’t had cable in forever!! But I am going to go with Scandal, which I’ve been watching faithfully thanks to Netflix. I’ve been so obsessed with the President’s inappropriate affair—because it’s been the juiciest television I’ve watched recently—and I feel like they focus on things that could actually be happening, but no one ever would want to talk about.

That’s kind of how I view My Forever & Beautifully Broken. I knew people weren’t going to love Maddy, and I knew there was going to be a lot of uproar over the cheating elements…but I wanted to portray real life. And honestly, I knew a lot of it was not going to be pretty. A lot of the themes touched on in both books I have personally experienced or witnessed. I feel like it makes my writing deeper.

3. Does music have an influence on your writing?
100% absolutely! Actually, Pandora plays on my computer all day everyday while I am working and while I am writing. It is actually playing right now! Hehe. I’ve been hooked on this station Mr. Little Jeans, it’s this new Norwegian KPop singer I discovered and I can’t get enough of! I should also mention I am a singer and lyricist and so I have been told I write more poetically.

4. What's the last book that you read that you could not put down?
I have to be honest, I haven’t had much time to read lately…but Hush, Hush by Becca Fitzpatrick was the last book I remember really losing myself in. Patch was just so mysteriously sexy.

5. You have to be deserted on an island with one character from My Forever and one character from Beautifully Broken. Who are they and why?
Is this even a question? Parker & Lee, hands down! PKL sandwich! Do I really need to elaborate? Haha. I wrote My Forever over twelve years ago; my inspiration was always to write the perfect boyfriend. Enter Parker Grant. So sweet and caring; he still makes me swoon to this day! As I grew older and experienced life more, I realized the bad boys actually endeared me. I liked that Lee wasn’t perfect; he had his vices.

6. You're given one week with no consequences and unlimited funds. How do you spend it?
Traveling with my family and friends, exploring the world for what it is.

7. If you could meet one author, living or dead, who would you choose?
Francine Pascal. No books have ever gripped me as much as her Sweet Valley High: Senior Year Books. I loved how I felt like I was reading about real teens with honest feelings and problems.

8. Lastly, what's up next for you? Any projects we should be looking out for?
I am getting ready to publish my third novel here in the next month on August 25th, titled Pieces of Me. It is the first book in my Foundation series. It is another young adult novel, but it is so much more than that. I don’t want to say too much, so I’ll simply let the blurb speak for itself:

For sixteen year old Peyton Lane, life has never been easy. She’s not popular, overweight, and oh yeah, her sister is embarrassed of her; but over the course of a tumultuous year, everything changes for Peyton. Suddenly, all eyes are on her and it’s not because she’s fat. From a pair of handsome twins to a couple of dangerously sexy rockers, Peyton will have to find out who she can trust with her heart. From the ups and downs to the twists and turns—this is Peyton’s story of finding one’s voice and growing into your own.

This is a coming-of-age romance that involves realistic situations and raw emotions. This is Pieces of Me.

Flip flops or heels? Sandals for sure—however, I wear heels nearly every day—so I may be a little biased.
Sand or snow? Snow is fun! Sand is better.
E-book or print copy? Print Copy. There is no other feeling in the world than feeling your favorite book between your fingers.
Bad boy or boy next door? Bad boy hands down! There is nothing wrong with the boy next door…but I love a challenge. ;-)
Cookies or cake? Vanilla cake! Yes, please.

  1. I have never read either book, but they're both YA Fiction so that's good enough reason for me. :)

  2. No I have not, but I like to change up what genres I read. They seem interesting, and have an actual plot and story line. Not just fluff.
