This series and author mean more to me than nearly anything. I love everything that Tolkien wrote, but The Lord of the Rings will always hold a special place in my heart.

  39. The last great book I read was "When She Woke" by Hillary Jordan. It's a futuristic retelling of "The Scarlet Letter," which I frankly didn't really enjoy all that much when I read it in high school...but a friend asked me to read "When She Woke" and I'm really glad I did, even though the story is like an emotional gut-punch.
